really sick of people using the “opium of the masses” shit
marx was saying that religion is one, among many, of the false consciousness people turn to in order to cope with their material conditions
opium is a painkiller
people are in pain and look for a painkiller
and you have the fucking gall to sit there and say this means religion is bad because it’s drug-like and not what causes the need for it
was posting about this a few weeks ago but just want to say I completely agree and new atheists who quote this stuff are actually hilariously stupid.
